Pensacola Blue Wahoos: A Week of Ups and Downs
A Historic Doubleheader
On July 31, the Blue Wahoos played a doubleheader against the Chattanooga Lookouts. In a remarkable display of offense, they scored 16 runs in the first game and followed that up with 20 runs in the second game, totaling 36 runs over 14 innings. This was a significant departure from their previous games, as they had never scored more than 10 runs in a single game this season.
Big Lead Erased
However, their success was short-lived. In a recent game, the Blue Wahoos saw a big lead erased, resulting in a 12-8 loss. This was their most deflating loss of the season, coming just a night after their most lopsided home loss.
Home Schedule and Fan Engagement
Despite the ups and downs on the field, the Blue Wahoos have announced their 2025 home schedule, which includes 69 games against every opponent in the Southern League. The team has also been enjoying strong fan support, with sellout crowds and a lively atmosphere at Community Maritime Park.
Other Notable Performances
Rob Brantly: The 35-year-old backup catcher for the Triple-A Durham Bulls made a rare pitching appearance, earning a save on just three pitches. However, his next outing did not go as well, as he allowed two runs over two-thirds of an inning.
JJ Wetherholt: The St. Louis Cardinals’ first-round pick in the 2024 Draft, playing for the Single-A Palm Beach Cardinals, has been making waves in the minor leagues.
The Blue Wahoos continue to navigate the challenges of the season, but their fan-friendly environment and exciting performances keep the energy high at Community Maritime Park.
