San Antonio Missions News: August 18 - August 24, 2024

The San Antonio Missions, the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, have had a mixed performance over the past week. Here are some highlights and key moments from their recent games:

Shutout Victory Against Springfield Cardinals

On Friday night, the Missions achieved their eighth shutout win of the season against the Springfield Cardinals. The team scored nine runs on eight hits, with six of those runs coming in the seventh inning. Marcos Castanon and Romeo Sanabria each hit home runs, contributing to the Missions' victory. Ryan Bergert, the starting pitcher, had one of his strongest starts of the season, keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard in 4.1 innings of work.

Comeback Attempt Falls Short

In another game against the Springfield Cardinals, the Missions fought hard to come back from a 5-1 deficit. They managed to score three runs in the seventh inning to pull within one run, but ultimately fell short as the Cardinals sealed the deal with two runs in the eighth inning. Austin Krob, the starting pitcher for the Missions, allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

Victory Over Frisco RoughRiders

The Missions bounced back with a 9-3 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders on Saturday night. Cole Cummings had a career-high five RBIs, and Austin Krob recorded his first win since July 4th. The Missions used the long ball to capture the lead, with Cummings hitting his 10th home run of the year to give the Missions a 3-1 lead.

Overall Performance

The San Antonio Missions have shown resilience and determination in their recent games. Despite facing setbacks, they have managed to bounce back with strong performances. The team's ability to score runs in crucial innings and the solid pitching from their starters have been key factors in their victories.

As the season progresses, the Missions will continue to face challenging opponents, but their recent performances suggest they have the potential to make a strong impact in the league. Fans can look forward to more exciting games and hopefully more victories for the San Antonio Missions.
