Asheville Tourists News: July 26 - August 1, 2024

The Asheville Tourists have had a rollercoaster week, filled with both thrilling victories and tough losses. Here’s a recap of their recent performances:

Historic Comeback Win

The week began with a historic comeback win against the Greenville Drive. The Tourists trailed 7-0 after two innings but managed to turn the game around, eventually winning 11-10. This remarkable comeback marked only the third time in the last 15 years that the Tourists have overcome a seven-run deficit to win a game. The last time this happened was on August 22, 2023, against the Brooklyn Cyclones, and before that, on May 23, 2010, against the Kannapolis Intimidators.

Pitching Dominance

On Friday night, the Tourists won their third straight road game, thanks to an outstanding performance from their pitching staff. Jose Guedez led the charge, helping the team secure a 3-1 victory over the Greenville Drive. This win showcased the team's pitching prowess, which has been a highlight of their recent performances.

Close Contests and Tough Losses

The Tourists also faced some tough challenges. In a series against the Aberdeen IronBirds, they nearly completed another comeback, rallying from an 8-1 deficit to fall just short, losing 8-7. They also dropped a game 5-1, where Aberdeen's defense kept Asheville's offense in check.

One-Run Games

The Tourists have been involved in several one-run games, a common theme this season. They won a thrilling 6-5 game against the Aberdeen IronBirds, marking their 13th win in 25 one-run games this season. However, they also fell short in a 3-2 game against the same opponents.

Notable Performances

Individual performances have been a highlight of the week. Garret Guillemette made a crucial leaping catch to seal a 7-5 win against the Aberdeen IronBirds. Narbe Cruz hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the comeback win against the Greenville Drive. James Hicks pitched around a leadoff double to secure the win in the same game.

Upcoming Series

The Tourists are set to face the Winston-Salem Dash in a six-game series at McCormick Field, starting on Tuesday night. This series promises to be exciting, given the close contests the teams have had in recent meetings.

In conclusion, the Asheville Tourists have shown resilience and determination over the past week, with both historic wins and tough losses. Their pitching staff has been a standout, and individual performances have been impressive. As they head into their next series, fans are eagerly anticipating more thrilling baseball from the Tourists.
