Charleston Riverdogs News: July 19 - July 25, 2024

The Charleston RiverDogs have had a remarkable week in Minor League Baseball, showcasing their resilience and determination on the field. From thrilling walk-off victories to dominant shutouts, the RiverDogs have demonstrated their ability to adapt and overcome challenges.

Balanced Attack Secures Win Over Cannon Ballers

On Wednesday, the RiverDogs faced the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. Every hitter in the RiverDogs lineup reached base safely at least once, leading to a 7-5 win. The game was played in front of a crowd of 2,605, and the RiverDogs emerged victorious in the first two games of the series by a combined three runs.

Walk-Off Blast Against Woodpeckers

Earlier in the week, the RiverDogs celebrated a walk-off win against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. Ricardo Gonzalez, the RiverDogs shortstop, turned 20 years old on Saturday and celebrated by grounding a base hit through the left side of the infield, plating the winning run in a wild 11-10 extra-inning affair.

Shutout Win Over Columbia Fireflies

The RiverDogs also enjoyed a one-sided 8-0 shutout victory over the Columbia Fireflies. Three RiverDogs pitchers combined to limit the Fireflies to just two hits in the victory, recording their seventh shutout win of the season.

Suspended Game Against Woodpeckers

The RiverDogs and Woodpeckers had their Friday night game at Segra Stadium suspended by rain after two innings. The suspended game will resume at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday with the RiverDogs trailing 3-1 in the top.

Series Split Against Fireflies

On Friday night, the RiverDogs worked 11 walks to earn a 7-1 win over the Columbia Fireflies, guaranteeing at least a series split against the Fireflies.

Refreshed from All-Star Break

The RiverDogs have enjoyed a second-half surge, taking over possession of first place in the Carolina League South Division. They faced the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers in a crucial six-game series from July 23-28, which included Swampy Joe Night on Wednesday.

Upcoming Games

The RiverDogs continue to face stiff competition in the Carolina League, but their recent performances have shown they are more than capable of rising to the challenge. With a balanced attack, walk-off wins, and dominant shutouts, the RiverDogs are poised to make a strong push for the playoffs.
