Comeback Kings
One of the most notable performances came on Wednesday night at Grainger Stadium, where the Woodpeckers staged a dramatic comeback against the Down East Wood Ducks. Trailing by a run heading into the ninth inning, Will Bush launched a game-tying home run to spark a four-run frame that powered Fayetteville to a 6-3 comeback win. This victory marked the Woodpeckers' fifth win in eight games against Down East this season.
Strong Pitching Performances
The Woodpeckers have seen some impressive pitching performances recently. Anderson Brito made his Single-A debut on Tuesday, striking out seven over three and a third innings. Hudson Leach provided two and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief, while Wilmy Sanchez shut down the Wood Ducks' lineup over three innings, striking out eight batters. Additionally, Abel Mercedes turned in his best outing of the season, tossing a season-long three scoreless innings and striking out a season-high eight batters.
Series Sweeps and Close Calls
The Woodpeckers have had their share of series sweeps and close calls. They completed a three-game sweep of the Charleston RiverDogs, marking their first series sweep of the season and their first since May 22nd.
