Columbus Clippers News: July 19 - July 25, 2024

The Columbus Clippers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, have had a mixed bag of results over the past week. From thrilling victories to tough losses, the team has shown both resilience and vulnerability in their recent performances.

Doubleheader Split Against Louisville Bats

On Thursday, the Clippers split a doubleheader against the Louisville Bats at Huntington Park. In the first game, they put on a power-hitting display, winning 9-3 with five players hitting home runs. However, they were unable to sustain this momentum, losing the nightcap 6-2.

Manzardo's Hot Streak

Kyle Manzardo has been on a tear, maintaining a .500 average and 1.500 slugging percentage over a three-game span. During this period, he went 7-for-9 and raised his average from .276 to .308.

Losses to Toledo Mud Hens

The Clippers faced the Toledo Mud Hens on multiple occasions, with mixed results. On Friday, they fell 6-4 despite Juan Brito's early solo home run. On Saturday, they were defeated 3-1, with Manzardo's solo home run being the lone bright spot. However, they did manage to win 14-8 on Wednesday, overcoming a six-run deficit thanks to a grand slam by Johnathan Rodriguez.

Walk-Off Victory

In a thrilling series opener against the Toledo Mud Hens, the Clippers rallied late to win 7-6 in 10 innings. Manzardo's team-leading 7th home run of the season in the 5th inning tied the game, setting the stage for the walk-off victory.

Road Success Against Syracuse Mets

The Clippers had success on the road against the Syracuse Mets, winning 7-5 on Friday night. Jhonkensy Noel's two-run blast in the 8th inning proved to be the difference-maker. They also convincingly won 9-1 on Thursday, with a six-run 8th inning putting the game out of reach.

Tough Losses

The Clippers were blanked 4-0 by the Syracuse Mets on Wednesday, managing only one hit. They also lost 12-3 to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday, despite solo home runs from Jhonkensy Noel and Micah Pries.

As the season continues, the Columbus Clippers will look to build on their successes and learn from their setbacks. With the talent and determination they have shown, fans can expect an exciting ride ahead.
