Scrantonwilkes Barre Railriders News: July 19 - July 25, 2024

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have had a mixed bag of results over the past week. From thrilling victories to tough losses, the team has shown both resilience and vulnerability in their recent performances.

Wins and Highlights

One of the most notable wins came on April 10, when the RailRiders bested the Norfolk Tides 7-3, thanks to a stellar bullpen performance that combined for seven innings of shutout baseball. More recently, on July 14, the team secured a 3-2 victory over the Syracuse Mets, with Trammell's home run proving to be the difference-maker. Additionally, the RailRiders topped the Buffalo Bisons 8-3 in eleven innings, showcasing their ability to come from behind and win in extra frames.

Tough Losses

Despite these victories, the RailRiders have also faced some tough losses. On July 6, they dropped their series finale against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 5-3, despite a career-high eleven strikeouts from Yankees prospect Will Warren. The team also fell 7-5 to the IronPigs on Independence Day, despite a sellout crowd and a fireworks show at PNC Field. Furthermore, they lost 4-2 to Lehigh Valley in a day contest of a split doubleheader, with a walk-off homer from Buddy Kennedy sealing their fate.

Postponements and Delays

Weather conditions have also played a significant role in the RailRiders' schedule. On June 26, their game against the Worcester Red Sox was postponed due to impending severe weather, with the teams instead playing a single-admission doubleheader. The RailRiders have also had to deal with unplayable field conditions, which led to the conclusion of a game against the Buffalo Bisons in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Community Engagement

Off the field, the RailRiders have been working to improve the fan experience. They have partnered with COLTS, the County of Lackawanna Transit System, to provide a new option for fans attending games at PNC Field. This partnership will offer service from five locations to the stadium, making it easier for fans to get to the games.

Looking Ahead

As the season continues, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will look to build on their recent successes and overcome their setbacks. With a mix of strong pitching performances and clutch hitting, the team is poised to make a push in the standings. Fans can stay up-to-date with the latest news, scores, and schedules on the team's official website.
